Ruby red with a slight purplish tinge.
The aromas are intense and fine. There are black berries, blackcurrants, plums and violets. Aromas of black pepper, leather, humus and smoke follow.
A wine with a perceptible softness, but above all a lively freshness and velvety tannins, indicating the wine's long ageing potential. A wine of elegance and boldness of body with a long, harmonious finish.
Vinifikacija: ročno obirano grozdje, fermentirano v majhnem rezervoarju iz nerjavečega jekla pri nadzorovani temperaturi 24-25 °C. Vino je starano v treh 500-litrskih sodih iz francoskega hrasta in enem betonskem rezervoarju 1300 litrov, kjer je starano 12 mesecev.
Ustekleničeno je 3.898 steklenic vina.
Letnik 2020 je imel močno deževje pomladi, kar je rezultiralo v pojavu plesni (oidij). Po nevihtnem začetku je bilo poletje suho in vroče. Ravno ob pričetku trgatve je zavel hladen veter in dež in v pozabo ne bo zlahka utonila podoba trgatve grozdja s snegom na vrhovih.
Toda rastlinam je bil dež dobrodošel in grozdje je bilo v zdravem stanju, z veliko koncentracijo, nizkimi alkoholnimi stopnjami in kislinami ter zrelimi tanini.
Grape varieties: mazuelo
Mazuelo je zelo rodna sorta, ki pozno dozori, obenem je dovzetna za različne bolezni. Njene karakteristike jo delajo bolj prikladno za pridelavo v mediteranskem klimatskem območju, kot pa v področjih, ki jih močno zaznamuje Atlantik, vključno z Rioja Alta. Edinstvene mikroklimatske značilnosti vinograda Quinta Cruz pa so se izkazale za idealne pri pridelavi te zanimive sorte, ki vsekakor pokaže dodatno dimenzijo elegantne Rioje.
La Quinta Cruz vineyard was planted in 1986 on the north-eastern slope of Calvario Hill, near the village of Briones and the River Ebro. The vineyard is planted on steep slopes and covers 1,2 hectares. The topsoil is very thin and consists of sand and gravel completely covered with gravel. The key factors that prevent the variety from growing so vigorously and allow the production of mazuela are from the Rioja Alta, an area strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean.
